ADHD and Time Blind? Build Your Time Awareness Today!

Ever feel like time escapes you? You have too much to do, are often late and play ‘beat the clock’?  Time is slippery, it drags when something is boring yet flies by when we are engaged and motivated.

We can lose time trying to work ourselves up to do something hard or even when transitioning between tasks. I remember years ago, working on a PowerPoint for an ADHD presentation. My husband had left and come back as I was working. I mentioned in passing that he hadn’t been gone long, and he said, “Are you kidding, I’ve been gone for 4 hours!” Really?! It certainly didn’t feel like it. I was hyper-focused and totally unaware that so much time had passed

“I am always up early, but my brain doesn’t come online until noon.”

- David Giwerc, founder of the ADDCA (ADHD Coach Academy)

Be curious as you begin to notice time with absolutely no judgement. What valuable information do you find about your own productivity? What patterns emerge? If you find that you are sailing through more challenging tasks in the afternoon, then you can plan your work schedule accordingly. You can do more routine tasks in the morning, the ones that don’t require brain juice. Armed with this knowledge, you can build in predictability that will give you a sense of control.

If it worked today, it can work tomorrow. That is something that you can count on. Become time aware today! And remember that with awareness comes choice!
